Membership Changes
New Membership System for national, state, and local leagues
What is happening?
In February 2025 LWVUS implemented a new membership system with the following changes:
A pay-what-you-can dues rate.
A modified division of dues among national, state, and local chapters to increase funding of state-level leagues where most voting rights advocacy takes place. The distribution will change as follows:

What does this mean to LWVBC?
A smaller share of your dues
Our share of dues is reduced from 35% to 20%. If you choose the recommended dues of $75, LWVBC will receive $13 less than we received from your $80 dues last year.
All dues are divided among LWVUS, LWVCO, and LWVBC
Many members have added a donation to their dues when joining or renewing. Currently, the amount over $80 goes directly to our local league. Beginning in February 2025,
it will not—unless it is entered as
a donation.
What does this mean to you?
Watch for email invitation to the new membership system
You may receive an email from LWVUS inviting you to their new membership system. The email will contain a link which will allow you to sign into the system using your email address.
Dues
You decide how much you will pay for dues, with minimum dues of $20 and recommended dues of $75.
Any amount specified as dues will be divided among the local, state, and national leagues at the percentages mentioned above.
The portions of your dues that go to the national league will not be tax-exempt, but the portions that go to our local chapter and the Colorado chapter of the league will remain tax-exempt.
You will be able to set up auto-renewal of your membership.
Donations ("Additional Membership Contribution")
Y
ou will be able to make a donation to your local league during the join/renew process.
You can donate directly to our local league at any time on the
Donations page
of our web site.
We recommend
As many of you have in the past, p
lease consider donating to LWVBC when you join or renew your membership. If you choose the recommended dues of $75, increasing your donation by $13 or more will help us make up for our anticipated shortfall. We appreciate your generosity.
Remember to separate your donation from your dues.
