Engage with Latino community at festival

I spend a good deal of time speaking with people and organizations on behalf of the League of Women Voters of Boulder County. One consistent question that I receive is “what can I do?” Certainly, first and foremost, to make democracy work for all, every eligible citizen must be registered to vote, be engaged and informed about the local, state and national issues, and vote in every election.

Another way to be engaged and informed in the community is to show up, providing support through your presence. A wonderful opportunity to be engaged will occur Aug. 4 at Boulder Central Park when the annual Colorado Latino Festival occurs from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Are you as troubled as the League is by the treatment of immigrants seeking asylum at the southwestern U.S. border, the nationwide ICE sweeps or by the threatened reversal of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, which would subject 700,000 plus students and other DACA recipients to deportation? If so, then I invite you to engage in your community by supporting the Colorado Latino Festival.

The League of Women Voters of Boulder County will be there, and we hope you’ll be there as well. We think you will enjoy the entertainment, food and community connections that you will find at the Colorado Latino Festival on Sunday.
