Welcome to LWVCO's Activist Training Series!
Our activist training series equips you with the knowledge and tools to create meaningful change at every level of government. This training covers four core areas: Understanding Government, Grassroots Organizing, Voter Outreach, and Legislative Advocacy. You'll learn:
- how Colorado legislation is made and how to track it
- ways to stay safe and legal at marches and rallies
- how to navigate our state budget process
- how to hold your government officials accountable
- methods to make your voice heard beyond marches
- how to reach marginalized voters
- the power of one-on-one conversation to bridge divides and inspire action.
Together, these sessions provide a comprehensive foundation for sustained, effective civic engagement!

Session 1: March 4 at 5:30pm - Intro to the Legislative Process
This training is perfect for anyone who is new to advocating for legislation or any veteran grassroots lobbyist looking for a refresher on how laws are made in Colorado. Our trainer will provide an overview of the structure and powers of the Colorado General Assembly, explain how bills advance through each chamber, teach you how to research and track legislation, and let you know how you can start lobbying with the League. Session 2: March 18 at 5:30pm - Activism Safety & Know your Rights
Learn about the constitutional rights that are applicable to all without regard to immigration status and protestor safety, including physical protection, digital privacy, and legal preparedness. CLICK HERE TO REGISTER
Session 3: April 1 at 5:30pm - Activism Beyond the March - Other Peaceful Ways to Resist
The League is known for marching - it's what we do! But what can we do outside of the march? We will discuss economic boycots and divestment, legislative and grassroots advocacy, and more.CLICK HERE TO REGISTER
Session 4: April 15 at 5:30pm - Reaching Marginalized Voters
A strong democracy is a democracy where every eligible voter is empowered to actively engage in the electoral process. During this training, we will discuss key voting populations that often face barriers to the ballot. We will share strategies for how to reach marginalized voters and how to help these voters exercise their voting rights. CLICK HERE TO REGISTER
Session 5: April 29 at 5:30pm - Holding Local Government Accountable: Observer Corps & Eyewitness
The League of Women Voters has been an active champion of openness in government throughout its history. As our country faces threats to the fabric of our democracy, we prepare to fight back at the grassroots level. Join us to learn how to build an Observer Corps and Eyewitness Corps in your community. Session 6: May 6 at 5:30pm - Deep Canvassing 101: The Power of Deep, Meaningful Human Conversations

Session 7: May 20 - Colorado Budget Process 101
Each year, the Executive and Legislative Branches work together to approve a new state budget and determine how the state’s resources will be allocated. This process is complex and can be difficult to follow. During this training, experts will walk you through how government agencies and the Office of State Planning and Budgeting collaborate to determine policy and program priorities, review important fiscal deadlines, and help you understand the ins-and-outs of this important government exercise.
