Making Democracy Work

Focus of the Schools Team

The Schools Team researches educational issues of interest to the League membership. This includes, but is not limited to, the Boulder Valley School District and the St. Vrain Valley School District, the two districts in our local LWVBC.

Like all LWV Issue Teams we welcome new members. If you would like to join us, please contact our Schools Team Leader -

Our Work

We analyze the school districts' ballot proposals and publish a compilation of arguments for and against, to enable voters to decide--such as the SVVSD proposal on the November 2016 ballot, and the BVSD bond issue proposal in November 2014.

We invite guest speakers
In September 2013, the superintendents of the two school districts spoke at our LWVBC fall "kick-off" meeting, discussing the details of Amendment 66 on the November 2013 ballot. (Amendment 66 was defeated.)

We conduct studies
In the 2013-14 school year, we studied school safety in light of several school shootings. We presented our study to League members and the public at meetings in April 2014.

We present candidate forums before school board elections, in cooperation with the Voter Service Team.
